Earlier this week, it was unknown whether or not Jordan Reed would miss any time while recovering from a concussion that he suffered in the preseason. Unfortunately, he’ll now be missing his second straight game for the Washington Redskins, as he was recently reported as out for their upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.

While head coach Jay Gruden had been optimistic about the health of Reed, he did note that Reed’s health was the most important factor. From the look of it, it seems as if Reed simply hasn’t progressed far enough to be healthy enough to appear in a game. Reed also missed Washington’s opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles with an injury he suffered in preseason.

The injury came as a result of a helmet-to-helmet hit from Atlanta Falcons safety Keanu Neal during the third week of preseason. The hit itself was severe enough to warrant the league fining Neal $28,075 for it, and has left Reed out of action for the time being. Unfortunately for Reed, this is another injury in a long line of issues for the highly talented pass catcher.

In the meantime, Washington will continue to lean on tight ends Vernon Davis and Jeremy Sprinkle, with Davis looking good enough to serve as backup until Reed is ready. Davis’ highlight reel touchdown during Week 1 of the season was an incredible play on its own, but showed that the team has enough depth in their tight end department to weather the storm while Reed recovers.
