Last week, in a win over the Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan was primed to inactive cornerback Josh Norman after benching him the week before. Then, despite reports saying Norman was inactive, the well-paid 31-year-old played, upset, not where he usually does.

Norman only saw snaps on special teams against the Lions. It was a clear indication that he must step up his play. However, despite so, Callahan is complimentary of the cornerback heading into their Week 13 bout with the Carolina Panthers.

Said Callahan on Wednesday, via the Panthers' official website:

He was activated last week. Josh is a great competitor and has contributed greatly to our team, and he’s fierce in so many aspects. We love everything about his makeup, and how he competes, and what he’s brought to our team. Quite frankly, we’ve got a corner in Fabian Moreau, who started for us last week, and contributed and produced two huge interceptions for us. He has an ongoing role on our team. We respected him greatly. His role can change from week-to-week. We have a good plan for him.”

Though Callahan was complimentary of Norman, he did not indicate that he would start anytime soon. Instead, the younger Fabian Moreau will earn that role moving forward, as the Redskins attempt to figure out what they have at the position.

Norman carries the highest cap hit for any player for the Redskins at $14.3 million, per Over The Cap. If they decide to part ways with him in the offseason, they would save $12.5 million while taking a $3 million dead cap hit.
