Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera and the rest of the team are trying look on the bright side. Despite all the challenges the organization recently faced, the long-time NFL coach remains optimistic for the future of the club.

As reported by NBC Sports Washington:

“To me, the only advantage that we have is that we are a mystery,” Rivera said on a Zoom call with local media on Monday. “Some of the teams that have the same coaches, those things are pretty much set.”

“The one advantage we have is that no one is really going to know what we do once we start playing football again,” Rivera said. “That is really the only advantage we will have.”

With football proceedings set to start in a couple of months, the Washington-based team still has many problems to address. Their offensive and defensive rotations are yet to be set in stone and having no preseason games won't help the team's planning.

But if anything, this gives the team the element of surprise for the games to come. A new coach and roster turnover may have opposing teams not knowing what to expect from D.C.

The Puerto Rican coach has already won a Lombardi in Super Bowl XX as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears in 1985. His coaching role in the league saw him bounce from one team to another. Rivera had stints with the Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers, and currently, the Washington Football Team.

He also led the 2015 Panthers to a Super Bowl 50 appearance but ultimately fell short to the dominant Denver Broncos. He aims to rejuvenate the winning culture in Washington and bring the team back to relevance after a cellar-dwelling 3-13 record last season.

Ron Rivera, Dwayne Haskins and the rest of the team will open the 2020 season as they host the Philadelphia Eagles on September 13 on their home turf.
