It appears that David Blatt is heading back overseas, where he was one of the most successful coaches in Euroleague history.
According to European basketball insider David Pick, Blatt, after a short stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, is finalizing a long-term deal with the club Darussafaka in Istanbul. Pick added that the deal is worth $1.7-2 million per season.
This news comes just weeks after Blatt was connected to a number of coaching vacancies in the NBA, including with the New York Knicks before Jeff Hornacek was hired.
In a season and a half with the Cavs, Blatt compiled a 83-40 record along with an appearance in the NBA Finals. Replacement Tyronn Lue hasn't exactly lost a step since, leading the Cavs back to the Finals with a 12-2 record in the 2016 playoffs.
Before making the switch to the NBA, Blatt had compiled quite the resume in Europe. In 2014, he won the Euroleague title and the Euroleague coach of the year award with Maccabi Tel Aviv. He also guided the club to six Israeli Cups and five Israeli League titles during his tenure there.
