The New York Knicks avoided a massive scare on Wednesday after budding superstar Kristaps Porzingis left their game versus the Miami Heat early on with what appeared to be a horrendous ankle injury. Fortunately, Porzingis was able to gingerly walk off under his own power.

It was even said that the former No. 3 overall pick could have possibly returned to the game. That said, Knicks fans received more good news today after his MRI came back negative, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski:

It was still early in the first quarter when Heat forward Justise Winslow accidentally stepped directly on the ankle of “The Unicorn.” Even upon closer review, it looked as if Porzingis had sustained critical damage.

However, Porzingis credited his “lizard-like” regeneration factor as the reason for his current day-to-day status. Needless to say, New York was able to avert disaster with their dynamic forward set to return soon.

Meanwhile, it was encouraging to see the Knicks manage to step up with a dominant 115-86 victory in the absence of their best player. They relied on a largely versatile scoring attack led by center Enes Kanter, who had a monster performance in his first game back from injury with 22 points and 14 rebounds. It will likely fall on Kanter to help hold down the frontcourt as Porzingis recovers.
