With six games remaining on their 2016-2017 schedule, the Philadelphia 76ers are beginning to make more definitive moves heading into the summer.

The team currently stands at 28-47 which is a huge improvement from last season especially when considering the amount of games that franchise center Joel Embiid missed. With this, the front office and coaching staff take on a more cautious approach with its young stalwarts.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Jahlil Okafor and Robert Covington are being shut down for the remainder of the season as both players are dealing with injuries — making the team’s decision a more sensible one.

The 3rd overall pick of the 2015 draft has missed the last four games due to right knee soreness. Okafor’s sophomore season became a more tumultuous campaign compared to his rookie year as injuries and lack of playing time caused a big drop off on his numbers. The Duke University product is only averaging 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game this season.

On the other hand, Covington overcame a slow start to emerge as one of the team’s more reliable two-way players. He will end 2016-2017 with decent numbers of 12.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 block per ballgame.
