Jerry Jones is done talking about the quarterback situation in Dallas, at least regarding this coming week. But, based on recent reports, he might just be taking the easy way out.

When Tony Romo went down with a back injury in the preseason, he was given a 10-week recovery period. 10 weeks have come and gone, and while we have seen Romo back on the practice field, he's still not ready to return to game action.

From the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

Monday and Tuesday, Tony Romo will focus on conditioning & change-of-direction. May not even practice fully this week. Doesn’t sound ready.

Given the spectacular play of rookie Dak Prescott, there's no need to rush Romo back onto the field. However, if Dallas actually does plan to play Tony, they'll want to incorporate him into the offense as soon as possible. Those reps will be valuable when the postseason arrives.

But, with the Cowboys on a seven-game winning streak, replacing Prescott seems pretty unlikely. Unless Dak's play dips dramatically in the coming weeks, Romo could be relegated to the sideline for the rest of the year, regardless of his health status.

Should Prescott go down with an injury, Mark Sanchez is the current backup for the Cowboys. With that in mind, Romo's return becomes much more critical.
