For 16 years, Diana Taurasi has spent her career with the Phoenix Mercury and established herself as one of the greatest WNBA players of all time. Now entering her 17th season, Taurasi decided that she will continue her career with the Mercury after signing a multi-year deal to remain with the franchise.

The 38-year old reportedly signed a two-year, $449,544 deal to remain in Phoenix, the team that drafted her out of University of Connecticut with the first overall pick back in 2004.

The Mercury announced Taurasi’s return on social media with a video showing her career highlights, while the Phoenix Suns also congratulated the three-time WNBA champion on her decision to remain with the team.

Aside from having multiple titles, Taurasi is also a two-time Finals MVP, the 2009 MVP, a nine-time All-Star, a 10-time All-WNBA First Team member, a four-time WNBA Second Team member, and a five-time scoring champion. Back in 2011, she was named as one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time, and was again named as one of the 20 Greatest Players on the league’s 20th anniversary.

Taurasi is also the league’s all-time leading scorer with 8,931 points and will have a chance to add to that total when she returns to the court for Year 17. Last season, Taurasi still averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and a steal while shooting 40.9% from the field and 36.5% from beyond the arc.

She entered the offseason as a free agent, but said in an interview with ESPN’s Katie Barnes that she did not entertain the idea of retiring and will now look to help the Mercury to another title.
