Bayern Munich frontman Robert Lewandowski has made history. The Pole has reached a feat that no player in Germany's top flight has in 50 years. With a goal against Freiburg on Saturday, Lewa became the second player ever to score 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season, matching Gerd Muller's record.
Robert Lewandowski even completed the milestone in just 28 GAMES. Let that sink in. Absolutely clinical. There was little doubt that he would eventually reach the 40-goal mark after bagging a hat-trick in a 6-0 dismantling of Borussia Monchengladbach a week ago.
And with another 45 minutes to go on Saturday then one more fixture to round out the campaign next weekend, there's still a high chance that Lewandowski can break the record altogether.
Robert Lewandowski has been linked to a possible move away from Munich this summer, but frankly, the tremendous service he gets at Bayern would leave little reason to leave.
Although the German giants were knocked out of the Champions League earlier than expected, much in part to Lewandowski's absence due to a knee injury, they've won their ninth successive Bundesliga title this term.
Across all competitions, Robert Lewandowski has now netted 45 times. It's crazy to think that last year, he literally scored 55 competitive goals. Talk about lethal in the final third.
