Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski might've been ripped off a Ballon d'Or Award by Lionel Messi, but he's now won the next best thing for the second-straight year.

The Poland international has been named the FIFA Men's Player of the Year, just edging out Messi and Liverpool talisman Mo Salah for the honors.

The award is based on a players' performances between October of 2020 and August of 2021. Robert Lewandowski was absolutely magnificent during that period for Bayern, passing Gerd Muller for the all-time scoring record in a single Bundesliga season, bagging 41 league goals in just 29 appearances. He also netted another five times in Champions League action.

Many believed that Lewa was a surefire favorite to lift the Ballon d'Or for the first time, but the award was handed to Messi once again after he led Argentina to a Copa America title last summer in Brazil.

Robert Lewandowski is back to his lethal ways this term as well, already scoring 23 goals in Germany and another nine in six appearances in Europe. The Ballon d'Or could very well be his for the taking this time around because Messi hasn't exactly settled in that comfortably at PSG, while no other player on the globe right now is scoring at the rate of the Pole. If he can also lead Bayern to another UCL triumph, his chances of winning the most decorated award in world football will be even better.
