The Houston Rockets are just 9-20 so far on the 2021 NBA season and seem to be going nowhere despite some recent surprising wins. The Rockets are equally as bad at home, on the road, on offense, and on defense and most of that is due to young players getting playing time.

The Rockets do, however, have an up-and-coming young core of players led by star rookie Jalen Green. One of the players who was supposed to be a good basketball role model for Green was Danuel House. That was up until the news broke today…

After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, House bounced around a few teams and the G-League before eventually settling in as a very good role player for the Rockets over the last three years. In the equivalent of two seasons worth of games, House has a career 36% three-point mark and averages nine points in 25 minutes per night. Most teams can use that type of production, but for the Rockets he was simply taking up space that they could use to evaluate younger players and aren't particularly on the same timeline as players who are in the last years of their deals like House is.

As you can see from the tweet above, the Rockets clearly have plans for the minutes that House was playing, and that plan is for them to go to forward Garrison Matthews. The recent addition of Matthews to the Rockets starting lineup has led to an increase in wins for the franchise as they are just 2-16 with Matthews out of the lineup and 7-4 when he is in it.
