Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni says All-Star point guard Chris Paul could sit out back-to-backs for the rest of the season.

Paul missed 17 consecutive games with a groin injury and he just recently came back. To make sure CP3 is fresh and healthy for the playoffs, the Rockets are going to play it safe with their floor general.

“Could be the rest of the year,” D'Antoni said, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. “We'll see. We only have (four back-to-backs remaining) so it is not dire. We'll see how he does. When Jason (Biles, the Rockets' athletic trainer) gives me a yay or nay, that's what we'll do.”

Chris Paul has played in three games since his extended absence. The nine-time All-Star is averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 assists per game while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Rockets, though, are just 1-2.

As we all know, Paul has an extensive injury history. CP3 hurt his hamstring in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors, and it essentially cost Houston a trip to the NBA Finals. The Rockets are wise to be cautious with Paul because they are going to need him to be 100 percent and elite in the postseason.
