Daryl Morey hints at still keeping interest in Sergio Llull
According to Alberto De Roa of Hoopshype, Sergio Llull, who was recently voted as the best international player outside the NBA, is apparently still firmly on the Houston Rockets’ radar. After purchasing his draft rights in 2009, the team and their general manager in Daryl Morey still believe that he will eventually come to play for them.

After re-signing point guard Chris Paul and center Clint Capela to long-term extensions, the team also acquired Brandon Knight, Marquese Chriss, Carmelo Anthony, Michael Carter-Williams, and James Ennis III in separate deals to round out their roster.
This makes a formidable group of versatile scorers and outside shooters that should easily mesh well with their perennial superstar and reigning Most Valuable Player, James Harden. Still, despite all their success, Morey may not be done making moves.
While the Real Madrid standout has expressed his contentment to remain with his team and even retire there, who knows what the future brings. The allure of a long-term and high-paying contract, coupled with the chance to play against the best players in the world, could be enough to change his initial decision.
Morey, seemingly, still believes this to be the case and is in the midst of a long waiting game with his services as the prize.
With today’s game moving faster and faster, it’s not certain how a point guard of Llull’s age can keep up with the younger and quicker players in the league. Still, his pristine outside shooting and impeccable passing ability will help offset his deficiencies and are big reasons why he’s arguably the best player in outside the NBA today.
Right now, only time will tell whether this pursuit will ever come to fruition. Though at least one thing is definite – the hope of him ever stepping foot on an NBA hard-court dwindles a little each day he chooses to stay in Europe.
