Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey talked to superstar guard James Harden about acquiring Russell Westbrook the day after Paul George got traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Once George was traded to the Clippers, everyone in the league knew the Oklahoma City Thunder were going to trade Westbrook next. Harden and Westbrook are like brothers off the court, and Morey knew he had to do whatever it took to get Westbrook on the Rockets:

The Rockets traded Chris Paul and multiple draft picks to the Thunder for Russell Westbrook, who was the 2017 league MVP. Westbrook has averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row. Harden and Westbrook are two of the most lethal scorers in the league. The Rockets remain title contenders with Westbrook in the fold.

It was clear Harden and Paul weren't going to be able to play together anymore moving forward despite both All-Stars denying reports of any discontent behind the scenes. Westbrook is owed a lot of money over the next few years, but he's still a superstar in the NBA. Paul, meanwhile, is still a very good player, but he's older and less productive than Westbrook.

Daryl Morey and the Rockets are never afraid to make a big splash. Houston and its fans are hoping Westbrook and Harden can lead the Rockets on a title run next season.
