James Harden had Kent Bazemore in a twister on Tuesday night, during the Houston Rockets’ matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.

What made it worse, none of Bazemore’s peers decided to bail him out.

It’s certainly not uncommon for Harden to belittle his defenders with this level of flair, but it’s surprising that Bazemore didn’t need himself a compass to relocate the Atlanta bench on the next dead ball.

Harden, 29, is posting averages of 35.9 points, 7.6 assists, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 steals for the Rockets this season.

Riding high off a five-game road win streak, Houston went into Tuesday’s game third in the Western Conference standings at 44-26. While Harden’s been just about all you could ask for as a scoring aficionado, his numbers from the 3-point line have recently curtailed.

The Rockets’ only loss in the previous dozen affairs came at the hand of the Golden State Warriors last Wednesday, where the reigning MVP shot just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc.

In the two games that followed, Harden shot 27 percent and 33 percent clips from deep.

Of course, not enough to tarry thoughts on crowning him with the MVP award, as he firmly sits atop the players to shelter the honor for the second time in two years.

Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo appears to be the only likely competition for Harden at the moment.
