Scottie Pippen definitely ruffled a few feathers in his recent interview with GQ. One of the personalities that were on his radar was none other than fellow Hall of Famer and former teammate with the Houston Rockets, Charles Barkley.
It's no secret that Pip and Barkley weren't/aren't the best of friends, and in his recent interview, the Chicago Bulls legend was more than willing to rekindle that old flame:
“I wish he woulda went through with it,” Pippen said pertaining to Barkley's murder threat after the former called him “fat.” “I never apologized to him, but I’ll tell you what: He only got arrested for throwing some little white guys out of a window. I ain’t never seen him fight a Black man unless there were referees around. He plays his role like he’s tough. I don’t know nobody he done whooped. Go back and check his record. Did I apologize to him? I told him to get me the hell out of there. That’s what I recall.”
Before anything else, a bit of context. After his highly successful tenure with Michael Jordan and the Bulls, Pippen joined Hakeem Olajuwon and Barkley in Houston. That stint did not go well for Pippen, and he ended up leaving the Rockets after just one season.
Pippen didn't exactly see eye to eye with Sir Charles, and as a bit of a parting gift, Pip decided to call Barkley “fat.” Chuck clearly did not appreciate the slander and he went out to say that he would “get arrested for murder” if Pippen did not apologize to him. As Pippen explained above, he never apologized to Barkley, and true enough, Barkley never followed through with his threat.
Not only did Scottie Pippen reveal how he never made amends with Barkley, but he even took it a step further by attacking Barkley's reputation. This is some old-school type of animosity we have here and it is interesting to see how the ever-outspoken Charles Barkley is going to respond to this haymaker.
Grab your popcorn, folks, this should be good.
