Currently showcasing a very shaky lineup and an endless need for improvement across the board, the Colorado Rockies are anything but in a good place. With the way things are looking right now, the Rockies won't be in any shape to compete in the NL West or the NL in general. To say the playoffs are long shot at this point would be a massive understatement.

From a lack of hitting to inconsistent pitching and not scoring  home runs throughout the regular season, the Rockies are definitely in a bind and need to figure things out sooner than later to avoid sinking deeper in the NL standings in 2022. So with all this going for Colorado, we'll now take a look at four bold predictions for the Rockies during the 2022 MLB season.

Colorado Rockies Predictions

4. The Rockies will get some much-needed help at-bat

In 2021, the Rockies set a record for lowest team batting average in a season in franchise history. Sadly enough their .217 team average on the road was another all-time low. The key issue here is that they need more firepower at-bat to help them get out of this slump that's taken away their ability to hit homers early on in games.

As the season wears on, they'll have to work some magic and pull some strings but there's still hope that the Rockies will bring in the help they desperately need to improve these numbers. It'll definitely take some time to make it all come together, but in due time they'll be back to hitting just above or at the very least right around the league average.

3. Colorado Rockies will get more consistency on the pitching front

On the grander scale, the Rockies pitchers combined for a 4.82 run average which was the fourth highest ERA in the National League and the sixth highest mark in the MLB. On the flip side, the Rox's bullpen allowed 39% of inherited runners to score which ranked second behind only the Phillies in the National League and fourth highest in the MLB in 2021. So clearly there's room for improvement and a lack of consistency in their pitching rotation.

This seems like a simple fix, but to remedy this issue the Rockies will have to find continuity and decisiveness with their selection of pitchers for the 2022 year. Be it in free agency, through trades, or the waiver wires, the Rockies will have their work cut out for them but still have some time to address this prior to the start of the regular season.

2. The Colorado Rockies will improve their play on both sides of the ball

Although they seem to have hit rock bottom of late, Colorado can still use this upcoming season as an opportunity to improve and build a competitive roster for the future. This will require a ton of patience on their end – especially if their looking to gain momentum and develop any kind of rhythm, but soon enough they'll improve their at-bats, pitching, defense, and on-base percentage.

Spring training could be a good measuring stick for them, but the entirety of the 2022 MLB season will give them the chance to experiment with their rotation and try to find a winnable solution of some sort that will push them in the right direction. With a fresh season full of new possibilities, the Rockies are primed to make some moves that'll improve their all-around play.

1. The Colorado Rockies will improve but still miss out on the 2022 MLB Playoffs

Despite all the changes that they'll be implementing this year, Colorado still has a ways to go before they re-enter the playoff mix. Between a deep and talented NL West and their recent decline, the Rockies will really plenty of work to do in order for them continue progressing and it may be a while before they get back to playoff relevance.

Regardless of how much they move the needle during their upcoming campaign, the Rockies are still a ways from being in playoff contention and it may have to get worse before it gets better for them unfortunately. However, a leap in their journey is definitely in the cards for 2022. It just likely won't be enough to result in a playoff appearance for the Rockies. A couple years from now seems more likely for them, but you never know what could happen.

Furthermore, Colorado has a rough season ahead of them and making all the necessary changes will only get them further to achieving more success. In spite of these efforts it still probably won't be enough for them to advance beyond the regular season. So with all this going for the Rockies, it is widely expected that they'll miss the cut and not be participating in the 2022 MLB playoffs.
