Amid much outside talk over whether he made the right move to sign with the Colorado Rockies, Kris Bryant is aiming to build a winning culture within the team.

The Rockies officially announced on Friday that they came to terms with Bryant on a seven-year deal. The veteran outfielder signed off on a $182 million deal that includes a no-trade clause.

As he noted during his introductory press conference on Friday, the 2016 National League MVP Award winner sees that there is plenty of potential with his upcoming run in Colorado.

“I feel like this team is so often overlooked,” Bryant said. “Finally getting a chance to choose where I want to play. It’s really hard to put into words. The stress, the happiness, all the emotions the past few years. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity.”

Bryant was part of one of the more successful rebuilding phases in recent baseball memory, as he helped guide the Chicago Cubs to a World Series win six years ago. Now with the Rockies, he has his sights set on turning around the team in the coming seasons.

“I see this as me being here for seven years and a lot of growth and opportunity to help a team get there and win a World Series,” Bryant said. “I take a lot of pride in the fact I’ve never played on a losing team in the big leagues and don’t plan on doing that.

“In Chicago, we brought a championship there. They lost for a long time and now it’s a winning culture and I really hope to bring that here, too.”

Bryant has featured in the postseason in six of his seven seasons so far in the majors. Over this same time span, the Rockies did not win a single multi-game playoff series, so it sure will be quite a task for him to lead the team back to playing crucial games in October.
