Cleveland Cavaliers guard Rodney Hood will not play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night at FedExForum.

Hood will be out for the second straight game due to an Achilles injury, which he sustained during their 92-91 win over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. The 26-year-old managed to play limited minutes in their game against the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors.

According to Cleveland.com, the pain in his Achilles got worse when Hood played through it against Charlotte and Toronto. Against the Raptors, Hood ended up with six points in 18 minutes of playing time.

Rodney Hood is one of the main scoring options of the Cavaliers. In 32 games this season, the fifth-year guard averaged 12.9 points on top of 2.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He is the third-leading scorer of Cleveland – next to Kevin Love, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton, respectively.

Jarod Blossomgame is expected to start in place of Hood for the second consecutive game. The 25-year-old struggled to find his rhythm against the Bulls, where he went scoreless in 22 minutes. David Nwaba is also expected to get more minutes after finishing with seven points against Chicago.

The Cavaliers have been hit by numerous injuries this season. They lost All-Star forward Kevin Love due to a toe injury. Love is expected to return in January. Tristan Thompson also went down with a sprained left foot, which could sideline him until January, according to ESPN.

Cleveland, who also decided to drop veteran JR Smith from their regular rotation, is struggling to recover from LeBron James' departure. The Cavaliers, who reached the finals in the last four seasons, hold a league-worst 8-26 record almost halfway through the 2018-19 NBA season.
