It wasn't too long ago that the Kansas City Royals won the World Series and looked like a program that was here to stay. Unfortunately for the Royals, that was not the case. This season, Kansas City is one of the worst teams in baseball. The Royals are 41-94 and have the second worst record, only ahead of the Oakland Athletics. Only two teams have been mathematically eliminated from the postseason so far, and those teams are the Athletics and the Royals. It's been a tough year, but the Royals recently announced some news that will provide some intrigue for the final month of the season.

The Royals are calling up their #5 prospect, Nick Loftin, on Friday, according to a tweet from Anne Rogers. It will be exciting to see Loftin make his debut and get some experience before the season ends.

Nick Loftin has been in the Minor Leagues since 2021 and has put up pretty solid numbers down there. His career batting average is .272, and Loftin has played all over the field in his time in the minors, but he is primarily an infielder. At second base, he has a career fielding percentage of .957, at shortstop it's .949 and at third base it's .928. At this point it's unclear where he'll play with the Royals. He has experience in the outfield as well, so he can really play almost every position on the field.

With the season essentially over, this seems like a good move for the Royals. It will give the fans something to look forward to for the remainder of the season, and it will be good experience for a top prospect.
