While the Memphis Grizzlies may want to trade Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, it may also be wise for them to consider dealing some of their role players.
According to Sean Deveney of The Sporting News, there is actually more of a market for big man JaMychal Green and wing Garrett Temple than there is for their two stars.
It makes sense, as Gasol has a $25.6 million player option for next season, and the $24.1 million he is making this year makes him a difficult salary to match. Conley, meanwhile, has at least one year remaining on his deal after this season with an early termination option for the 2020-21 campaign.
Both Green and Temple can certainly help a lot of teams, as Green is a versatile big who can spread the floor and guard multiple positions and Temple is a hard-nosed defender with length.
Also, both guys will be free agents at season's end, with Green making $7.7 million and Temple making $8 million on the year. So, it probably wouldn't take much more than a draft pick and equal salary coming back to the Grizzlies to strike a deal.
Memphis got off to an impressive and surprising 12-5 start this season, but since then, the Grizzlies have gone just 7-24. They have lost seven games in a row and 13 of their last 14 overall.
The Grizzlies won just 22 games last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign. Now, barring a miracle, it looks like Memphis will be out of the postseason for two years in a row.
