The Sacramento Kings have gained a reputation as a fairly unstable organization of late. There has been a rotating door pulling in coaches and pushing them out soon after over the last few years. As well as this, there are constant trade rumours surrounding their franchise player, DeMarcus Cousins and they have struggled to hold onto players in free agency.

According to Sacramento Bee sports columnist Ailene Voisin, more issues are arising and their starting small forward, Rudy Gay has requested a trade.

The 29-year-old Baltimore native has played for Sacramento since 2013, when he was traded from the Toronto Raptors. He has always been able to score but never found a way to breakthrough and lead a team to success.

This summer, the Kings have traded Marco Belinelli in order to gain a draft pick and have signed Anthony Tolliver, Aaron Afflalo, Matt Barnes and Garrett Temple. Their roster needs some firepower and perhaps trading away Gay is one of the ways to get that.

Per Marc Stein of ESPN, Kings center Kosta Koufos and shooting guard Ben McLemore are also available for trade discussions. Many fans will hope that by making these players available, the team can improve in the guard position and make a significant leap forward defensively.

With the uncertainty that seems to constantly surround the future of their star big man DeMarcus Cousins, it seems vital that the Kings find a way to make their roster competitive to keep him happy and turn the team’s fortunes around.
