It was a long wait for Ty Lawson.

The 28-year-old point guard who spent last season with the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers finally signed with a team this summer, reaching an agreement on a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings late last night.

Last year was essentially the worst of Lawson's career as his averages dipped to 5.7 points and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 39.3 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Via The Vertical:

Lawson joins a backcourt full of opportunity in Sacramento, where the Kings lost Rajon Rondo in free agency to the Chicago Bulls. Darren Collison is expected to be the Kings’ starter at point guard.

For Lawson, the experiment of coexisting with All-Star guard James Harden didn’t work with the Houston Rockets last season. Lawson agreed to a contract buyout in March after the Rockets sent Denver a first-round pick in a July deal for him. He then agreed to a contract to finish the season with the Indiana Pacers.

Lawson should have a chance at becoming the Kings' backup point guard, but there will be some competition with players like Garrett Temple, who signed a 3-year, $24 million deal with the Kings this summer.

Lawson has struggled to find his place in the NBA because of his own wrong-doings. He was arrested for his fourth DUI last summer.
