Drew Brees perturbed plenty of people—even teammates from the New Orleans Saints—on Wednesday following his questionable statement in response to players kneeling during the National Anthem. Less than 24 hours since he made the comments, Brees has issued an apology to those that he hurt with his comments.

While conducting an interview with Yahoo Sports on Wednesday, Brees was asked about players possibly kneeling during the National Anthem again. Despite the events that have transpired in the past week, Brees uttered a eyebrow-raising response:

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States,” Brees began, adding that the national anthem reminds him of his grandfathers, who served in the armed forces during World War II. ”In many cases, it brings me to tears thinking about all that has been sacrificed, and not just in the military, but for that matter, those throughout the civil rights movements of the '60s, and all that has been endured by so many people up until this point.”

Just a few years ago, Colin Kaepernick knelt during the National Anthem. In doing so, he was highlighting the issues that African Americans have to withstand in today's society. On the other hand, some believed that Kaepernick was disrespecting the flag and the veterans that serve this country.

On the contrary, Kaepernick actually spoke out against what is currently being protested around the nation. Therefore, Brees' comments weren't well-received by many on Wednesday.

Seeing how people responded to his comments, it was expected for the veteran signal-caller to release an apology. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Drew Brees' apology is legitimate or if he's attempting to repair his personal image.
