New Orleans Saints rookie running back Alvin Kamara is less than a week removed from suffering a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football.

However, the 22-year-old declared on Wednesday afternoon that he will be able to play against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Kamara returned to practice in full on Wednesday. He is currently still in the concussion protocol, but his presence alone at practice is a positive sign that he should be back on the field against the Jets. The injury occurred in the first quarter of last Thursday's game after Falcons linebacker Deion Jones hit him helmet-to-helmet.

The Tennessee product has been a revelation this season, putting himself at the forefront of the conversation for the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Kamara has a unique ability to greatly impact the game as both a runner and pass-catcher, as he's the third rookie in league history to record both 600 rushing and receiving yards in a single season.

On a broader scale, Kamara is a major part of the Saints' impressive turnaround this season. They're in position to secure their first playoff appearance in four years and possibly an NFC South title (they hold the tiebreak over the Carolina Panthers, who they're currently tied for first with at 9-4).
