The New Orleans Saints have made efforts to get lucrative contract extensions done for their key players as of late such as wide receiver Michael Thomas and defensive end Cameron Jordan. Running back Alvin Kamara is hoping that he is the next one on the list to be taken care of.

Kamara said during an appearance on the RapSheet and Friends podcast that he is hoping to potentially kickstart negotiations for his long-term deal.

“We'll see what gets done. I'm obviously in my third year of my rookie contract, so we'll see. Might be something going on.”

Kamara's desire for a new contract is certainly understandable. He has already managed to provide New Orleans with plenty of bang for their buck early on and he is hoping that his efforts will be rewarded while playing one of the most grueling positions in the NFL.

Kamara was seemingly a no-brainer for a long-term extension going into the 2019 NFL season with two Pro Bowls and two All-Pro selections already on his resume. Unfortunately, he was unable to take advantage of being the featured back in town after rushing for 797 yards and five touchdowns while registering a career-low 533 receiving yards.

Although his struggles can be attributed to some lingering injuries, it has raised further speculation on the debate of whether or not teams should invest heavily in one running back. The Saints will be among the teams that are slated to answer that question as he nears the end of his rookie deal.
