New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill has only thrown 13 passes in his NFL career and has been used more as a rusher, receiver and special teamer than a passer, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have an arm.

As a matter of fact, former Saints special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff thinks Hill profiles as a Lamar Jackson type, except that Hill throws better:

“Take a look at Baltimore,” Westhoff said during an interview with Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio. “It’s the same kind of guy. Taysom Hill does those same kind of things. I think he throws better.”

Westhoff served as a special teams coach on the NFL level from 1986 through 2018, so he certainly knows a thing or two about the game. But a distinction needs to be made here: he isn't saying Jackson, who just won the league's MVP award, isn't a good passer. He is merely saying that he thinks Hill could fill the type of role Jackson does with the Ravens and potentially do it even better:

“I think you’ll see an offense that’s similar to Baltimore, that can do a lot of different things,” Westhoff said of a potential Saints offense led by Hill. “And Sean Payton is an extremely qualified coach, and he’s very, very creative.”

Hill is certainly an interesting player.

He went undrafted out of BYU in 2017, landed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent and was then acquired by New Orleans off waivers in September of that year.

The 29-year-old began receiving regular playing time in 2018, and since then, he has rushed for 352 yards and three touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 238 yards and six scores.

Of course, playing quarterback is an entirely different ball game.
