After Drew Brees announced his retirement, the New Orleans Saints continue to make sure they will have some stability at the quarterback position with the re-signing of Jameis Winston.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Winston has agreed to a one-year deal worth $12 million to stay in New Orleans.

Shams Charania of The Athletic has also confirmed the report:

Winston's extension comes in the wake of New Orleans also signing Taysom Hill to a $140 million extension. This recent development means that the Saints now have two handsomely-paid quarterbacks that will be gunning for a starting spot this coming season. It remains to be seen which of the two will lead the charge for New Orleans for 2021, but at this point, it appears to be a wide-open race.

New Orleans head coach Sean Payton has a good problem in his hands at the moment. As he's done in the past, a time-share between Hill and Winston could be in the books too.

Either/both Hill and Winston will have some huge shoes to fill as they look to take over the helm that once belonged to the great Drew Brees. It was a sad day for the Saints (and the football world in general) when the legend officially announced his retirement, but it has opened a huge window of opportunity for his potential successor.

Winston's new deal also takes the Saints out of the Russell Wilson sweepstakes. None other than New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell campaigned for Wilson to join the Saints, but as it turns out, New Orleans might have never wanted in on the race anyway.
