The New Orleans Saints' season did not end on the best of terms, with the NFC South franchise ultimately coming up just short in this year's NFC title game against the Super Bowl-bound Los Angeles Rams. It appears as though the 2018 campaign did not end as planned for Saints rookie pass rusher Marcus Davenport either as the up-and-coming defensive lineman has formally announced that he is recovering from surgery.

Davenport took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce such news with the young defender currently recovering from what can be speculated to be toe surgery.

“Most people don't know but I had been dealing with what was considered a season-ending injury. Lucky I was able to play through the pain and although not a 100 % I finish the season. I promise to come back better. Thank you to all that supported.”

Now with one NFL season under his belt, the 22-year-old defensive end will be forced to spend the offseason rehabbing his injured toe. Nonetheless, Davenport encountered quite the memorable rookie season in the bayou as he helped the Saints come within just one game of the Super Bowl.

As a result of his first go-round atop the highest level in New Orleans, Davenport appeared in 13 regular season games due to injury. During that same span, the young defensive lineman notably produced 21 total tackles, with 12 of those wrap-ups coming by way of the solo variety. Adding one forced fumble and a pair of pass defenses, he also registered a respectable 4.5 sacks for the Saints during the 2018-19 regular season.

Unfortunately for Davenport and the Saints, New Orleans felt short of facing off against quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots due to a blown call against the aforementioned Rams. Making matters worse, the Patriots held the Rams to just three points on Sunday.
