New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has an old-school approach to the team's recent struggles. He's going to stick with Dennis Allen and continue to try and fix what they have wrong with the staff in place. Loomis doesn't want to run away from the issue. He points these thoughts toward the idea Hall of Fame head coaches have struggled early in their coaching tenure but stuck their foot in the mud and learned how to dig themselves out.

“Chuck Noll his first three years: 1-13, 5-9, 6-8. They recognized he's a good football coach. Bill Belichick, his first three years: 6-10, 7-9, 7-9. Tom Landry: 0-11, 4-9, 5-8, 4-10, 5-8. All of them Hall of Fame coaches. The easy thing is to blame them. You gotta look beyond that,” said the Saints GM, per Ari Meirov at The 33rd Team.

The Saints haven't fielded the same teams they had behind Drew Brees and Sean Payton. They've been looking for that spark, but it's been absent. Allen hasn't been able to produce a consistent offense behind Derek Carr. New Orleans has stayed as a median-level NFL team with a 9-8 record in 2023. They flirted with the playoffs until the final week of the regular season but were unable to get the nudge.

Patience is the key for Loomis and Allen. They'll continue to ride through small improvements and attempt to bolster the Saints' roster on both the coaching staff and player lineups in the offseason. The Saints' future falls into the hands of Loomis' decision to stick with the plan and move forward with Allen as the team's head coach.
