The New Orleans Saints are in need of another wide receiver after Dez Bryant went down with a torn Achilles. As a result, they are expected to try and sign Brandon Marshall next week, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

In fact, Schefter adds that the Saints had considered bringing in Marshall, who also worked out for the team along with Bryant last week, to provide another receiving option even before Bryant’s injury.

Marshall, who was cut by the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 30, could be playing for the Saints as early as next week. Prior to his release, Marshall played six games for the Seahawks this season, making just 11 catches for 136 yards and one touchdown.

The Saints have been banged up at receiver all season. Bryant is now their fifth different wideout on injured reserve, following Cameron Meredith, Ted Ginn, Tommylee Lewis, and Travin Dural. Michael Thomas and rookie Tre’Quan Smith are the two reliable wide receivers Drew Brees has left.

Based on Marshall’s subpar play this season, it’s unlikely that he would make a significant impact on the Saints. But he reportedly impressed the team during his workout. And with his size, he could be at least be a decent red-zone threat.

Moreover, the Saints still have the likes of Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram, and Benjamin Watson to be the necessary weapons for Brees to work with. But the Saints will need a few more options if they aim to make a run at the Super Bowl, and it seems Marshall is their man.
