One of the best quarterbacks in Ohio State football history J.T. Barrett went undrafted but will still get the chance to impress the NFL. According to the Ohio State Football Twitter account, Barrett will get a tryout at the New Orleans Saints Rookie Camp.
He had previously agreed to go to a rookie camp with the Indianapolis Colts but with the camp being the same weekend as the Saints, he has now picked them.
Tom Savage and Taysom Hill are the backups right now to Drew Brees so he probably has a more realistic shot at getting a contract offer from New Orleans.
Barrett was such a successful and well-respected quarterback and leader at Ohio State, but there are many questions about how that would translate to the NFL. Before the draft, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN provided a very honest prediction of why he didn't think Barrett would be drafted.
“I think he’s a developmental guy,” Kiper said. “His passing skills, accuracy and decision making, that’s the big question mark. I’d probably look at him more as an undrafted free agent.”
At Ohio State, the young arm was a winner finishing with a record of 38-6 in three and a half seasons. He threw for 9,434 yards 104 touchdowns and 3o interceptions. He also rushed for 3263 yards.
During his senior season though he struggled at times and there was actually calls for him to be benched. He has been widely inconsistent at times and that was probably a big reason why he didn't end up getting drafted.
