On Tuesday morning, some shocking news came out of New Orleans, as Sean Payton announced his departure as head coach of the Saints.

It's been suggested that he could consider coaching football in the future, but this isn't something he wants to do right now. When Katherine Terrell of The Atletic approached Payton about the possibility of him coaching in the future, Payton stated,

“At some point. I don't think it's this year. Maybe in the future. But that's not where my heart is right now.”

Katherine Terrell also had this to say.

“Sean Payton said he hasn't spoken to any media outlets about doing TV. Maybe the opportunity arises, and he said he thinks he'd be good at it, but that hasn't happened yet.”

When Payton is ready to return to the football field in a few years, it will be interesting to see where he gets another head coaching position.

The Saints and Sean Payton had to deal with a number of setbacks this season, including the loss of a Hall of Fame quarterback, starting four different quarterbacks throughout the season, and moving the franchise to another state for a month.

Payton's decision to retire is understandable, but he will be sorely missed in New Orleans, since he is one of the best coaches of the last decade.

The Saints are in for an interesting offseason, and this news just adds to the intrigue as they strive to reclaim their status as a title contender
