Teddy Bridgewater was in line to be a backup with the New York Jets, and his status won't be changing after his trade to the New Orleans Saints, where future Hall of Famer Drew Brees still holds the keys at quarterback. However, Bridgewater still “loves” the move to New Orleans, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

While Bridgewater remains a backup, he'll be in a QB-friendly system coached by Sean Payton and will be learning from one of the best of all time in Brees. That's not a bad situation to be in as the second-string quarterback.

Bridgewater's future with the Saints may be in question, but perhaps they're planning on grooming him to be Brees' successor. Brees will be turning 40 in January and could decide to retire after 18 seasons, though he's under contract through 2019.

Either way, Bridgewater's future is looking up after it looked so bleak just a couple of years ago when he suffered his devastating leg injury. Before his injury, Bridgewater was one of the more promising young quarterbacks in the league. He led the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs in 2015 at the age of 23 and was primed to be their franchise quarterback. He's still just 25 years old and should have plenty of years ahead of him.

Bridgewater looked terrific in preseason with the Jets, completing 28 of his 38 pass attempts for 316 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also bounced back from some big hits as he continues to get over the mental hurdle of playing again and taking hits. Even if he barely plays with the Saints, he could be in line for a starting job in 2019.
