One of the biggest moves the New Orleans Saints made this offseason was bringing in tight end Jared Cook.

Ever since Jimmy Graham left after the 2014 season, they've gotten very little production out of tight ends. That doesn't mean they haven't tried as much as things just haven't worked out, like with the huge contract they gave Coby Fleener.

The Saints are hoping Cook works out much better, and head coach Sean Payton seems to be optimistic that he will. Cook had a breakout season last year with the Raiders, but speaking to the media recently Payton said it was apparent even before then what type of player he was.

“I saw real good film when he was in St Louis. I saw real good film last year,” he said, via the team's official site. “And so anytime you're in free agency, you gather as much information as you can and then when the player arrives, there's certain things you weren't aware of that are good and maybe sometimes weren't so good. In his case, it was all positive. He's a tremendous worker, dedicated, I think someone who's a true pro in every sense of the word. I think that he's been a real good addition for us.”

Payton was then asked about whether his breakout was due specifically to playing in Jon Gruden's offense in Oakland, and Payton acknowledged that a lot of things are scheme dependent and that the Saints are going to try to adapt their system to him.

“I think sometimes there's a fit. Sometimes there's a fit and maybe some other places it's more difficult. There's a little bit of is it the right script for success? There's been a lot of real good actors in poor movies and there've been a lot of poor actors in poor movies. I think it is up to us to really look closely at the things that he does well and feature those things.”

Jared Cook was one of the best tight ends in the league last year, racking up 68 catches 896 yards and six touchdowns, all career-highs.
