San Francisco 49ers star cornerback Richard Sherman is set to play his first game back at his old stomping grounds of Centurylink Field, facing linebacker Bobby Wagner and the Seattle Seahawks for the first time since his departure last offseason.

It could be a bittersweet situation for Sherman given how things ended in Seattle after he was released by the team. Despite him choosing to ink a deal with the division rival 49ers, his former longtime teammate Bobby Wagner believes the fans should give him the “loudest cheer” when he is introduced prior to the game, according to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.

Sherman spent the first eight years of his career with the Seahawks , developing into one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He was also a major part of their vaunted “Legion of Boom” secondary that was the anchor of their defense, leading Seattle to a pair of Super Bowls while earning the first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

Shermans has stacked up numerous individual achievements along the way with four Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and a Second-Team All-Pro selection. However, his tenure with the franchise came to an end much sooner than he anticipated after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon last season. The Seahawks eventually chose to part ways with Sherman due to uncertainty about him returning to his previous level of play.

He is now set to return to Seattle as a visiting player for the first time in his career, which should spark plenty of emotions for him given what he accomplished during his time there. Given how things transpired and what he meant to the franchise, it should see Seahawks fans voice their appreciation toward Sherman come Sunday afternoon.
