The Seattle Seahawks are boasting a surplus of talent in the backfield heading into the 2020 NFL season. Regardless, it seems running back Carlos Hyde is well aware of the pecking order.

Hyde admits that there is no debating running back Chris Carson's status as the starter this offseason, via the team's official Twitter.

“I think everybody knows who the starting running back is for Seattle,” Hyde said. “And that’s Carson.

“I knew that before I even signed with Seattle, that he was the guy.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Hyde's comments. While Seattle may have opted to bring in another starting-caliber option in himself, Carson's emergence into one of the most productive running backs over the last two seasons has helped him solidify his hold on the job.

Although the No. 1 job may be reserved for Carson, Hyde should still have an opportunity to etch out an integral role for himself as a complementary option. The veteran has good reason to be confident following a career year in the 2019 campaign by rushing for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns on 245 carries.

Hyde's presence should help serve as a stabilizing factor for this injury-plagued backfield in Seattle. Both Carson and running back Rashaad Penny suffered season-ending injuries late in the year and are still working their way back to a full-fledged return. This means his primary competition this offseason will come in the form of a couple of recent draft picks in Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas.
