The Seattle Seahawks will be meeting with free-agent defensive lineman Earl Mitchell sometime this week, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Mitchell spent the 2018 campaign with the San Francisco 49ers, playing in 14 games and finishing with 28 tackles.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Arizona, was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the third round (81st pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie season, totaling 27 tackles and a sack.

Mitchell went on to spend the first four seasons of his career with the Texans, posting similar numbers each season. His best year with the club came during his final year there in 2013, as he registered 48 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The Houston native then moved on to the Miami Dolphins, where he got things started by recording 33 tackles and a pair of sacks in his first season with the team. He ultimately played three years in South Beach before landing with the 49ers in 2017.

During his first year in the Bay, Mitchell totaled 33 tackles and a sack.

The Seahawks are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 10 games and captured a Wild Card berth in the NFC. They then went on to lose to the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Seattle ended a short one-year hiatus from the postseason with its playoff appearance this past season, and before missing the playoffs in 2017, the Seahawks had made the playoffs five years in a row, including back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl title during the 2013-14 campaign.
