Matt LaFleur believes Seahawks rookie DK Metcalf has a ‘really bright future’
D.K. Metcalf was able to play a vital role in the Seattle Seahawks’ victory over the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers are tasked with containing him next. Before the Seahawks and Packers square off on Sunday, Matt LaFleur was nothing but complimentary about Metcalf.
“He’s so big and physical,” Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Wednesday regarding the Seahawks rookie. “I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do. He can run every route. He’s really fast. I was really impressed with him when I got a chance to sit down with him at the Combine. He’s gone out there and done it. Just for what he’s done as a rookie, I think it’s been pretty impressive. I think he’s going to be one of those true elite receivers, a true number one in the game. I think he’s got a really bright future.”
In last week’s Seahawks’ victory over the Eagles in the Wild Card round, Metcalf corralled seven receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. All of those numbers were career-high marks for the rookie wide receiver.
Additionally, the 160 receiving yards was actually an NFL record for a rookie wide receiver. That is just one game that has shown how high the ceiling is for Metcalf in Seattle.
During the draft process, Metcalf became an intriguing prospect due to his combination of size and speed. However, the Ole Miss product unexplainably fell to the second round of the draft and was the eighth wideout taken in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Over the course of his first season in the NFL, Metcalf totaled 58 catches, 900 yards, and seven scores. The Eagles were unable to contain the first-year wideout in his first career playoff game. If the Packers are incapable of slowing down Metcalf, they could undergo the same fate as the Eagles.
