This past weekend has been filled with talk about if Russell Wilson is trying to force a trade from the Seattle Seahawks to maybe a team like the New York Giants. Even though Wilson has put on the deadline to sign a long-term extension, Peter King of NBC Sports doesn't think that's what he is trying to do.

King thinks that Wilson is trying to see how important the Seahawks view him, but he doesn't think that means he wants a trade, and ultimately he thinks that Wilson wants to get a deal done with the Seahawks.

A few other things, counter to the current rumor mill. I do not believe Wilson is pushing for a trade right now, to the Giants, or anywhere. I believe he wants to work out a deal with Seattle. I believe Wilson wants to know where he stands with the Seahawks long-term, which is one of the reasons why he is pushing hard for a deal to be done now. I believe if the Seahawks do not do a deal by midnight tonight, it doesn’t meant they don’t want Wilson to be their quarterback for the next decade—it just means they’re not willing to set a contractual precedent like tying his contract to how fast, and how high, the cap rises over the life of the deal.

Monday night is the night that Wilson has set the deadline for a long term contract to get done, and if it doesn't get done, he won't talk about it again till after the season.

If an agreement isn't reached, it will be interesting to see what the next step is but if King is right, it won't include Wilson getting traded.
