Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny underwent ACL surgery on Friday morning, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Penny is expected back for 2020.

Penny suffered a torn ACL during the Seahawks' Week 14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, ending his season.

In the 10 games he did play in 2019, Penny rushed for 370 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 5.7 yards per carry. He also logged eight catches for 83 yards and a score.

The second-year halfback was just starting to really break out in Weeks 12 and 13, as he totaled 129 and 74 yards on the ground, respectively, in those two games, punching in a couple of touchdowns.

Penny was so impressive, as a matter of fact, that some wondered if he could potentially get more touches than fellow running back Chris Carson the rest of the way, but obviously, that was never able to come to fruition.

Of course, even if Penny hadn't gotten injured, Carson probably would have remained the No. 1 back, but there is no doubt that Penny was starting to show flashes of why Seattle selected the San Diego State product in the first round (27th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft to begin with.

The 23-year-old played in 14 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 419 yards and a pair of scores as a rusher, registering 4.9 yards per attempt.

The Seahawks are 11-3 on the season and sit in first place in the NFC West, as they hold the tiebreaker over the San Francisco 49ers, who are also 11-3.

However, Seattle still has work to do. It will take on the feisty Arizona Cardinals on Sunday before concluding its regular season with a showdown against the 49ers in Week 17.
