As an African American at a position historically filled by white men, Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson knows first hand the state of injustice in the country.

On Monday, Wilson joined many other NFL players and coaches in releasing a statement regarding the recent death of unarmed black man George Floyd as well as the issue of racism in the United States.

The six-time Pro Bowler took to Twitter to express his emotions on recent events while showing his support for the Black Lives Matter movement and calling for a change in the country.

Russell Wilson is not the only NFL star to call out the injustice in America as of late. 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and 2020 No. 1 pick Joe Burrow both recently released similar statements while Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also commented on the death of Floyd and similar incidents.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell also recently released a statement, but that statement was widely criticized by both the media and players for its uninspired and hypocritical nature.

On the field, Wilson has continued to be one of the best players in all of the NFL. Last season, while leading the Seahawks to an 11-5 record, the 31-year-old completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 4,110 yards, 31 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Wilson also showed his incredible dual-threat ability by rushing 342 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Despite Wilson's incredible season, the Seahawks would fall to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. Going into the 2020 season, Wilson and the Seahawks are looking to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since their loss in 2015.
