The Seattle Seahawks have acquired cornerback Quinton Dunbar in a trade with the Washington Redskins.

The news was reported by Josina Anderson of ESPN. The Redskins had been shopping Dunbar in trade talks as of late.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Redskins are acquiring a fifth-round pick in exchange for Dunbar. In other words, they're acquiring a fifth-round draft pick after sending one earlier in the day. That would be because they sent a fifth-round pick in exchange for Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen.

“Comp update: Seahawks are sending Washington a 5th-round pick in exchange for CB Quinton Dunbar, per source. So Redskins trade a 5 for QB Kyle Allen, get back a 5 for Dunbar.”

The 27-year-old Dunbar had spent all five of his seasons in Washington, emerging as a full-time starter last season. In 11 games started, Dunbar posted four interceptions, 37 tackles and eight pass deflections.

The disgruntled cornerback wanted a new contract from Washington as he enters the last year of his deal in 2020. However, despite emerging as the team's top corner last season, the Redskins didn't believe he warranted a new contract.

Why? Well, the Redskins have a completely new coaching staff after the hiring of head coach Ron Rivera.

As noted by Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan, the Redskins trading Dunbar kind of works to his advantage. That would be because under new CBA rules, holding out would have just hurt his bank account.

“It's now mandated – not up to the team basically – that you get fined $40K a day when you hold out from training camp,” Paulsen said. “That's number one. So that adds up quickly. I mean you want to miss a week? Okay, just take six workdays times $40K. That's how much you're out after that first week. Good luck.”

“Second reason it's so difficult for players to hold out on this new CBA is that, we now know, that there is no language to decipher, there's no caveats and gray areas and ways to win a hearing,” he said. “If you don't report you lose your accrued season towards free agency. Period. What does that mean?”

Dunbar will look to start anew in Seattle.
