The Seattle Seahawks enter the offseason already having undergone plenty of major changes. As a result, it seems they are not trying to make any more, especially on the defensive side of the ball. There had been reports looming about Seattle potentially dealing both safety Earl Thomas and defensive end Michael Bennett.

However, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it seems only the latter may be traded:

“From what I understand, (the Seahawks) want this trade to happen sooner rather than later,” Rapoport explained. “So maybe the next week or so before Michael Bennett officially leaves the Seahawks.”

Rapoport added that Thomas will be part of the team moving forward will remain with the Seahawks for the 2018 season.

Thomas is “firmly in their plans for the 2018 season,” Rapoport added.

As far as moves go, this one certainly makes sense. Thomas has been one of the best safetys in the league over the past several years. Furthermore, he could be the only remaining member of Seattle's “Legion of Boom” if Kam Chancellor is unable to play and Richard Sherman is moved. Losing the six-time Pro Bowler would have dealt a heavy blow to a unit that has already been riddled with injuries.

Meanwhile, Bennett's potential trade has seemingly been a foregone conclusion for some time now. The three-time Pro Bowler is as solid an option as there is on the edge, when healthy. Despite a tumultuous 2017 campaign, he was largely productive. However, it seems Bennett's knack for making headlines off the field has run its course in Seattle, in addition to the organization's desire to get younger.
