The Seattle Seahawks have officially wrapped up another member of their draft class. Receiver D.K. Metcalf signed his rookie contract Wednesday, per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.

With Metcalf checked off the Seahawks have only one unsigned draft pick left, third round linebacker Cody Barton. Metcalf was one of the most interesting prospects to monitor during the pre-draft process. He had a meteoric rise after he blew up the combine, running an absurd 4.33 40 and dominating every phase of athletic testing.

The media hype surrounding him was unavoidable, and people began to think of him as a surefire first round pick. Sportsbooks that offered odds had him even going in the top ten for a while, which obviously turned out not to be the case. Metcalf had one of the biggest falls in the draft, lasting until the Seahawks scooped him up with the 64th overall pick.

In his congratulatory call with Pete Carroll, Metcalf sobbed and asked why they waited so long to get him. While it was a tumultuous process for Metcalf, it might've ended up working out for the best. Metcalf will now get to go to a team with a stable coaching staff and solid culture, and be developed in the right way.

Metcalf's freakish athleticism is undeniable, but evaluators had concerns about his route-running ability. While the Seahawks would surely like to take their time and develop the Ole Miss product, they might not have the luxury. Doug Baldwin was forced to retire due to injuries this offseason, and the Seahawks now have a pressing need at receiver. It'll be very interesting to see how Metcalf answers the challenge.
