Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny is hoping to enjoy a bit of a resurgence in the 2019 NFL season. It seems Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis feels he will be able to do just that.

It is no secret that Penny is coming off a disappointing rookie campaign. Davis is confident that he will be able to earn the starting job over running back Chris Carson this offseason, via NFL.com:

Recovering from a knee injury, Chris Carson still came into minicamp in “better shape” than anyone. But the story out of Seattle was Penny, who has also dedicated himself to being a better pro — with that comes health — this offseason. Penny, who did not start last season, received most of the reps during OTAs and looked comfortable doing so.

The second-year back battled nagging injuries (finger, knee) in 2018 but is ready to prove why he was a first-round draft pick. With his new approach, expect Penny to make the most of his opportunities, giving him a real shot at taking over the starting job at some point in the first half of the season. As the RB1, Penny's athleticism and natural ability to be full display this fall in Brian Schottenheimer's run-first offense.

The Seahawks made quite the investment in Penny when they took him with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was expected to make an immediate impact due to his first-round status. Unfortunately, he was never able to find his footing as a rookie and wound up finishing the year with just 419 yards and two touchdowns.

Regardless, Penny is still optimistic that he can justify his draft status. He even reportedly recruited the help of Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk to help him with the transition this offseason.

It is clear that Davis is convinced that he will be able to enjoy a breakout year in 2019.

It will be interesting to see if Penny can emerge as the bell-cow back in Seattle moving forward.
