Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver in Antonio Brown was recently involved in swirling rumors over the past few days before signing with his new team. Another contending team in the Seattle Seahawks previously vouched and spoke highly on the seven-time Pro Bowler, but proceeded to head in a different direction instead.

Via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

“Some in league circles wonder whether coach Pete Carroll repeatedly confirmed interest in Brown in the hopes that someone else would sign Brown simply so that the Seahawks wouldn’t have to. With quarterback Russell Wilson speaking in such glowing terms about Brown, it seemed clear that Wilson wanted him on the team. Carroll and G.M. John Schneider may not have wanted to risk adding Brown to the roster, but they also may not have wanted to tell their MVP candidate of a quarterback that they wouldn’t sign him.”

The Seahawks were rumored to be vocal about their interest in Brown so other suitors will be threatened to quickly act on the matter before they get beat by the Seattle-based squad. The strategy, whether they did it accidentally or deliberately, proved to have worked for the Seahawks.

The Buccaneers responded and signed the long-time free-agent on a one-year, league-minimum deal. With the recent signing, head coach Bruce Arians gave the franchise its most stacked roster yet to date. Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady now has a plethora of weapons on the offensive end as the team aims to make it deep into the playoff picture in the latter stages of the season.

The former Central Michigan standout is expected to make his highly-anticipated debut with his new team in their Week 9 matchup as they host division rival New Orleans Saints.

Whatever the reason may be, the Seahawks' gamble to not sign Antonio Brown will be judged by the end of the season when the entire league has already witnessed his level of contribution for the Buccaneers.
