Serie A club Napoli are on the verge of falling out of the top four of the league’s table after losing to Inter Milan on Wednesday, but that’s not the only one Azzuri head coach Gennaro Gattuso is being livid about.

Gattuso could not contain his anger at the referees, particularly at Davide Massa, after Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne was ejected from the contest. Insigne got shown with a red card after he contested the officials’ decision to award Romelo Lukaku a penalty, which the Inter Milan star converted into a score.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Gattuso went on a scoring diatribe directed at the referees.

“Only in Italy do I see referees showing the red for these things,” Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia.

“You're not sent off in the same situation in England.

The gravity of the contest and Napoli’s urgency to get three points definitely added more coal to the Gattuso’s burning anger at what just transpired.

“I'm not making it up: I played in Scotland in the past and I still follow their football today. The captain of a team there can't be sent off for a ‘f*ck off' to the referee for a dubious penalty.”

Napoli are currently fourth on the Serie A table with 23 points – -tied with fifth-placer Sassuolo. A win would have had the Azzuri leaping past Juventus for solo third. Instead, the Azzurri are now in danger of falling out of the UEFA Champions League berth picture. Not only that, Napoli’s loss meant that Inter Milan are now occupying the solo No. 2 spot with 27 points — just a point behind league leaders, AC Milan.
