The San Jose Sharks have had a busy offseason so far, as the franchise is making major moves to the front office and coaching staff. They already made history in hiring Mike Grier as the general manager, as he's the first black GM in league history. Now, Grier makes his first official move as he brings in David Quinn to be the new head coach.

According to Elliotte Friedman, San Jose has Quinn set in their sights to lead the way. It sounds like it came down to a three-way race, as Mike Vellucci and Spencer Carbery were finalists. But in the end, the Sharks are going to hire David Quinn to coach the team.

The deal isn't officially complete yet, but all signs point towards it coming to fruition, giving the Sharks a talented new head coach. Grier and Quinn have somewhat of a history together, per The New York Post. Mike Grier and David Quinn have known each other through the years, “as the duo both played at Boston University under all-time great Jack Parker. While their playing careers never overlapped – Grier played from 1993-’96 whereas Quinn played from 1984-’88, they both share a strong fondness for the program.”

So, San Jose is going to have some stability between the front office and coaching staff. Both Mike Grier and David Quinn should be on the same page considering they come from similar ties in college. This is a great move for the Sharks, as the organization aims to get back to contention as quickly as possible.
