When a star player gets traded to a new team and one of their new teammates is wearing their old number, that player usually goes into their bank account and offers a nice chunk of change for the number. New Sixers star Jimmy Butler apparently didn't need to do that with Landry Shamet.

Shamet wore No. 23 before the Sixers acquired Butler from the Timberwolves. So, what did Butler give Shamet to acquire his old number? A pat on the back.

Poor Landry Shamet. The kid didn't even get a nice payday to give up his number. Maybe he didn't care, or maybe Butler is just so imposing that the rookie just gave it up. Whatever the case may be, the Sixers are playing really good basketball since they acquired Jimmy Butler. The team is 7-3 in the 10 games since the trade. Butler already has two game winners. He has also been a pest on the defensive end for the Sixers.

Numbers are very dear to players. Apparently, No. 23 wasn't that important to Landry Shamet, who is seeing extended playing time now that Markelle Fultz is away from the team. The 21-year-old entered Friday averaging 8.0 points per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor and 39.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
